Biography

Singer songwriter/actor Stephen Walters and multi instrumentalist Dave Gleave.

They met on a television set in 2003 and have played music together ever since. As a duo they have played numerous gigs in and around the North West region, including among many others: Liverpools L2, Manchester Ruby Lounge and Manchesters Night and Day Cafe. It is only in the last year or two that Dave and Stephen have felt it "right" to persue their music ambition on a more professional/public platform.

Disco Smith's musical philosophy is that first and foremost their work should sound distinct and powerful when performing in a stripped down acoustic environment. This they strongly believe illustrates not only the strength of the songs but it also clearly demonstrates the technical quality of their riff driven guitar playing and precise vocal harmony, surely the acid test for any good song!

However when called upon for live performances they have augmented the two guitars with keyboard, drums and bass. Together they have amassed in excess of well over 40 recorded songs and believe that given the right opportunity they have in their repertoire potentially one of the best debut albums since "Definitely Maybe".

These tracks cover the whole spectrum of song style be it heavy rock, acoustic solo, massive string laden ballads, straight rock and roll, electric dance, and folk, blues.

A personally huge inspiration and template for the boys is The Beatles White album, predominately for its eclectic brilliance and musical unpredictability. Stephen and Dave both produce and arrange all their songs.

Musical influences are as varied as The Beatles, Oasis, Crowded House, Simon and Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Mumford and Sons, The Fleet Foxes, Buddy Holly, The Mamas and Papas and The Kinks

You will notice that a common theme in all these acts is that of traditional songwriting backed up by great lyrics and serious musicianship. This definition perhaps best sums up Disco Smith. "The general flavour and tone of all their songs is unapologetically with one eye on commercial a market whilst at the same time retaining an individual musical identity". Writing and producing songs for other acts is also another serious ambition.

Stephen is an actor and has appeared in over 100 films and dramas including Band of Brothers, 51st State, Layer Cake, Franklyn, Splintered and Hannibal Rising. He has just finished filming 'Powder' a film about a struggling UK rock band set in the 70's.

Stephen sang lead vocals on 'The Last Pilgrim', an Elvis Costello produced song for his part in the Alan Bleasdale Presents film 'Blood On The Dole'
